About 25 new Canadian immigrant women are taking part in a new project at the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery.
Each woman is teamed up with a volunteer from Moose Jaw to work on art projects together for the next 18 weeks.
The first session of the Women Connecting Through Art in the Community program was held on Wednesday.
The program is provided by the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery, through funding from Community Connections - Immigration Services Division.
Volunteers help the 25 participants with their art as well as offering friendship and a chance to improve their English.
Christy Schweiger, education co-ordinator at the museum and gallery, said artists from Moose Jaw will work with the group in three areas of the arts: pottery, fabric and photography.
“These people’s skills are very limited and we thought it would be great for someone to participate with them and practice their English and learn about art and introduce these new people into the community to somebody that’s been here for a while,” she said.
The first six sessions are being held by Anna Hergert, who is teaching hand stitching.
