Over the past several years, four of Lorne and Norma Hunter’s five sons have played for hockey teams all over Canada and the United States.
J.J. played five seasons under contract with the Edmonton Oilers on their farm teams, and went on to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks AHL affiliates; Dusty played in the CHL with the Oklahoma City Blazers and the San Angelo Saints; Luke played for the Swift Current Broncos for five seasons, captaining the team for his last two years, and Brock played AAA midget and junior hockey in Saskatchewan and Alberta.
Now all four are back in Shaunavon, Sask., their hometown. Ty, Lorne and Norma’s youngest son, is still in high school.
All of them work on Lorne’s farm.
And all five sons, along with their parents, sing together in a gospel group called The Hunter Family, which performed in Moose Jaw on Feb. 26.
“We don’t believe it’s an accident that we’ve all found ourselves together again,” said Lorne.
“There was a point that my sons thought they had given hockey a shot, but if we as a family didn’t embrace the music together now, it may be too late.”
