Raven, a fabulous and magical creature of impulse and curiosity, wants to find out what is in the “boxes of light” owned by the Chief.
He launches a brilliant scheme to get close to the boxes, which involves impressing the chief’s daughter.
His plan ends up yielding a wonderful occurrence.
This traditional story from the Tlingit people of northern British Columbia and the Yukon is told in a contemporary theatrical dance show called Raven Stole the Sun.
The show, produced by the theatre company Red Sky of Ontario, was performed in Moose Jaw on Friday, March 12.
“This is a beautiful story about a character who is impulsive, who does things that we’re not supposed to do: We’re not supposed to manipulate others, we’re not supposed to steal from others,” said Sandra Laronde, director of the show and the artistic director of Red Sky.
“We live vicariously through Raven, which makes this story very entertaining to watch.”
Laronde said she chose the story to be produced by Red Sky because it had many possibilities for the stage.
