Dapaodou-pido dah-bah-dah! It’s jazz and it’s coming to Mae Wilson Theatre on May 13.
Saskatoon’s BJ Harris Band is performing at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre, playing music both new and old with a jazzy edge, complete with the unpredictable improvisations that make jazz so exciting.
“There is a framework,” band lead singer BJ Harris told the Times-Herald. However, he said jazz music is sort of like the bedtime story one tells his or her child — while the beginning, middle and end are basically set, everything in between is totally subject to imaginative change.
All proceeds from the concert (hosted by Casino Moose Jaw) will go towards Moose Jaw Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a Friendly City family in need.
Work should be starting on the house in June and the City of Moose Jaw has donated three plots of land for the project on the 900 block of Stadacona Street East.
Harris, 39, said Habitat for Humanity is a very important cause, but in all honesty the charity is not the main reason he’s lending his talents to fundraising concert. He’s doing it because his father asked him.
“My dad (Bill Harris) is actually helping out with the fundraiser.”
