Big Country Toastmasters' meeting last week had Sharon Heaney as chairperson and Simon Wells as Toastmaster and table topics master.
The theme was Rich and Famous and the word of the day was hubris. All members were challenged to use their creativity in using the theme and the word of the day in their personal observations during their introductions.
Wells described the purpose of table topics which encourages members to practise impromptu speaking in the form of a mini speech. Participants responded to questions regarding members' personal experiences with someone who was rich and famous.
Lorna Arnold's topic was Common Thread in Life, which outlined her participation in a workshop she attended at the Toastmasters District No. 42 convention held May 1-3 in Saskatoon. The impact of the workshop stressed the importance of leadership, not only in Toastmasters, but in all aspects of life.
Doris Dunphy's topic was, Don't Miss it Next Time, which explained there were not only educational sessions but also much fun in attending the convention.
Congratulations were extended to Joy Desjarlais who participated in the Toastmasters' International Speech contest.
