For last week's meeting, Big Country Toastmasters had Simon Wells as chairperson, Lorna Arnold as Toastmaster and Sharon Heaney as table topics master.
The theme was "Campaign Night" and the word of the day was "assiduous".
All members were challenged to use their creativity in using the theme and the word of the day in their personal observations during their introductions.
Sharon Heaney described the purpose of table topics which encourages members to practise impromptu speaking in the form of a mini speech.
Each member presented campaign speeches for offices open for Big Country Toastmasters. This allowed members to practise their expertise in persuading members to vote for each candidate.
The group currently encourages members of the general public who are interested in improving their speaking skills, whether to assist in better job performance or for personal growth, to attend a meeting.
Big Country Toastmasters meet Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. in the SIAST Palliser Campus boardroom. For information phone 693-8739. New members and guests are welcome.
