Secret agents, spies, detectives and all things mysterious were read about by participants of the Agent 009 TD summer reading club.
Conducted through the Moose Jaw Public Library, the reading program for readers 12 years and younger, attracted 446 participants who read 2,392 hours during the summer and until the program ended Aug. 15.
Participants received a coupon from Burger King for the first reading log returned to the library. Pre-readers who read at least 12 hours and independent readers who read at least 24 hours were also entered for draws.
Students who read the most hours in their grade were: pre-reader (Grade 1 and younger), Keelee and Tanaya Winder, 52 hours each; Grade 2, Addison McAuley, 56 hours; Grade 3, Bruc Bus, 136 hours; Grade 4, Thayne Winder, 52 hours; Grade 5, Alana Karn, 64 hours; Grade 6, Gabrielle Klassen, 64 hours; Grade 7, Dannielle d'Entremont, 176 hours. Winners were able to order the book of their choice through the library.
The pre-reader draw winner was Br'y Bus who won a ball and a puzzle. Independent readers were Cassie Byrne and Stephanie Zumstein who each won $50 gift certificates from Boston Pizza.
The jelly bean draw winner was Sara Steinbrecher whose guess of 444 was on the mark.
The library participated in the teen summer reading club program for the second year. The club's components were the TeenRC website and the teen summer challenge.
The website allows teen members to post book reviews and participate in discussion forums with other teens across Canada.
This program runs year-round online at www.teenrc.ca.
A second component of the club was the teen summer challenge, a combination of a scavenger hunt and game of truth or dare. Winners were Sara Artiga, Jason Rochford and Anna Wattam.
