People can experience a taste of Canada with images from British Columbia’s west coast to Cape Spear, Newfoundland at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre.
Conceptual artist Anna Hergert is displaying her work Compelled. . . An Exhibition of Fibre Art at the gallery until Aug 6.
On Saturday, Hergert will hold an opening reception from 2p.m. to 4 p.m. and will give a short talk about the pieces at about 3 p.m.
The aim of the exhibition, which was first shown a year ago in Oregon is to experiment with images of Canada. It took Hergert about a year to create the pieces.
“I felt compelled to provide a good picture of Canada to those that have not come across Canada or are outside of it.
“It was also to make people aware of the need to preserve the beauty and the vastness of Canada which is why I used recycled and repurposed materials and made sure it was aesthetically pleasing,” she said.
Hergert, of Sand Point Beach, said she cannot pick a favourite piece out of the exhibition.
“Each piece represents a different area of Canada and the whole show has a lot of importance to me as I have travelled often on the Trans-Canada highway.
“In 2008 we want from the west coast all the way to the east coast.
“It depends on my mood and what I remember that day by looking at each piece,” she said.
