“I was thrilled. I was beside myself. I was ecstatic,” Yeager told the Times-Herald on Wednesday, adding she intends to try and get the 3,000-word story published.
The 50-year-old Vanier Collegiate English/Creative Writing teacher said she probably wrote 40 drafts of her story about an elderly rancher who builds both literal and metaphorical fences.

“I’ve always been interested in just how people interact and what makes people.”
Although her SWG award is worth a mere $100, Yeager said the recognition from fellow writers is much more rewarding. She spent about three years on “fences” and has been writing seriously for the past 15 years.
