Note: This event took place on Sunday, Sept. 27.
When the Regina string trio the True Jive Pluckers perform at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre on Sunday evening, they’ll be playing some jazz standards including After You’ve Gone, Blue Room and Pennies from Heaven.
But they’re also going to play a tango, Rio Sena by Astor Piazzolla, Hobo’s Blues by Paul Simon and parts of The Nutcracker by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
“We like to shake things up a bit. We always have a couple of surprises up our sleeves at our shows,” said Stephen McLellan, the trio’s “bass plucker.”
“We all have a deep love, an appreciation for all types of music, including jazz, the blues, tango and classical.”
The trio is comprised of McLellan, who is also principal bassist with the Regina Symphony Orchestra (RSO); “violin plucker” Ed Minevich, concertmaster for the RSO and “guitar plucker” Jack Semple, an electric and acoustic guitarist.
The trio made its debut to a sold-out house in October 2005 when it played with the RSO at the Conexus Arts Centre.
It played again with the RSO in January 2009.
Now the trio has been asked to perform with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra in February
