Note: Brain Sauce performed at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre on Thurs., Oct. 9.
Last Halloween, Moose Jaw’s Brain Sauce performed a show in wooden masks that band members made themselves out of the bark of a fallen tree.
It was the birth of the four-member band’s new stage persona, which will be showcased in full at at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre on Thursday.
“We’ve gone into the theatrical side of performing music,” said Brodie Mohninger, the band’s vocalist and guitar player.
“We’ve been wearing masks and costumes when we play, and building sets.”
At the cultural centre, the band will play in front of a set built of mirrors taken from the former Elks Hall in Moose Jaw before it was torn down.
The show, appropriately, is called “Smoke and Mirrors.”
“In a theatre, there are a lot of techniques used to create a fantasy world. We’re going to use mirrors, and costumes, to create a fantasy world, too, one that’s quite absurd, playful and humourous,” said Mohninger.
Brain Sauce's show is Thursday at 8 p.m at the cultural centre. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the centre's box office in person only, or from John’s Music, 692-0860, or Brodie Mohninger, 692-5682.
