Note: This event took place on Sat., Oct. 10.

Residents in Moose Jaw will be able to watch the Metropolitan Opera live from the comfort of the city’s Galaxy Cinema for the first time on Saturday.

It is the fourth season Cineplex Entertainment has showcased The Met: Live in HD but the first time Moose Jaw’s cinema has taken part.

Saturday will see director James Levine conduct a new production of Puccini’s Tosca, which tells the story of three people- a famous opera singer, a free-thinking painter and a sadistic chief of police- caught in a net of love and politics.

Georgia Sourtzis, spokesman for Cineplex Entertainment, said the cinema had already had the correct technology, including a digital projection, to show the operas but Moose Jaw was not chosen for the project at first.

She said initially 24 locations were chosen.

“We quickly identified that we needed to go out to smaller communities as well. "Our customers in Moose Jaw were asking for it so we decided to show the season this year," she said.

I cannot understand why Galaxy in Moose Jaw did not publicize this better. I made 2 trips to Regina to see La Boheme and Aida only to find that Aida played here. I read the TH every day and saw no announcement about Aida.
