Amy Robertson, a Grade 12 student at Cornerstone Christian School, has undergone a major personality change in two theatrical characters she has played.
She went from playing grumpy Miss Hannigan in the school’s production of Annie last year to gentle Meg March in this year’s Little Women, which debuts at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre on Tuesday.
It’s a difference in character Robertson is finding enjoyable and challenging.
“Meg is the is the motherly type. She’s very sweet and gentle, and I haven’t played a part like that before,” said Robertson.
“Acting in a subtle way, though, is a lot more challenging than a part where you act out a lot more.”
Little Women is a musical version of Louisa May Alcott’s classic book. The musical made its debut on Broadway in 2005.
The musical tells the story of the four March sisters growing up in Massachusetts as their father is away fighting for the Union Army during the American Civil War.
