Note: A Midsummer Night's Dream was presented from Nov. 5 to 7.
In Peacock Collegiate’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, the characters cavort not in a forest of Athens, but a farm in the Baildon area near Moose Jaw.
“Putting the play in a more familiar setting helps put the ideas and themes in context, and helps the students understand the relationships between the characters,” said Lyle Johnson, the production’s director.
“And, it let me play around with the music.”
Heard during the play, for example, is Conway Twitty’s It’s Only Make Believe, reflecting the dreams that are a key part of the plot.
Shakespeare’s words, however, have not been altered in the production.
