Since Prairie Oyster played in Moose Jaw in 2006, the Ontario band was named to the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.
“It’s certainly nice to be recognized by one’s peers,” said Russell deCarle, the band’s vocalist and bassist, of the 2008 honour.
The hall of fame recognition, the latest for the multiple-Juno and Canadian Country Music Award winning band, was a reminder to for Prairie Oyster members there is no reason for them to rest on their laurels, deCarle said.
“We’ve never played music to win awards. We’ve just been fortunate to get a lot of airplay and reach people who liked what we do,” said deCarle.
The band is keeping busy touring and writing music for its next album, which it plans to record this summer, he said.
The band played in Moose Jaw on Thursday, Feb. 11.
