Novelist Steven Galloway cannot wait to come to Moose Jaw to take part in the Saskatchewan Festival of Words.
He said the event which takes place from July 15 to 18 is probably his favourite festival in Canada and it’s one of only two invitations he has accepted this summer.
Galloway, the author of three novels, including his latest the Cellist of Sarajevo, is taking an active part in the 14th annual festival.
“It is rewarding for a writer because of the enthusiasm of the crowd in Moose Jaw,” he said.
“It seems like everyone in town comes out to these events and you get to talk with readers in a way you do not have the opportunity at larger festivals.
“I would never say no to Moose Jaw. I like the entire province of Saskatchewan,” he said.
The life of a novelist is “over glamorized” according to Galloway and he said whenever you pick up a newspaper, it tells stories of how books are doomed.
“You spend most of your time sitting in a room by yourself and it’s very easy to get gloomy and sort of doomy.
“But going to a festival you realize people not only read books but are happy to spend a day or evening talking about books with other people and thinking about them,” he said.
