The halls of Peacock Collegiate echoed with the chaotic squealing and honking from dozens of bagpipes throughout the school Saturday morning.
As various competitors blew out some practice tunes in advance of their individual adjudication performances during the Highland Festival, some might have found it difficult to appreciate Scotland's renowned instrument.
However, if one put his or her ear up to a particular door where some individual was performing before one of several experienced adjudicator, one could hear that hearty and charming sound for which the bagpipe is notorious.
One of those performing a traditional Scottish melody, known as a Piobaireachd, was Moose Jaw's Jordie Richardson. A member of Regina's Conservatory of Performing Arts Pipe Band, he played his best for adjudicator Kylie MacHattie.
