The Cornerstone Inn Pub and Eatery is taking its usual Sidewalk Days events and adding a little bit of old-school rock and roll.
Javier Bravo, manager of the pub said this year it is welcoming two Canadian rock band legends - Harlequin and Streetheart - to its stage June 25-27.
He said in an effort to celebrate both the reopening of the Cornerstone and an outdoor festival of the summer, he wanted something a little more over the top than in past years.
The shows will be performed under a large tent so weather will not be an issue, said Bravo.
"Our goal is to have a lot of fun while at the same time promoting the pub and Sidewalk Days.
Bravo said people have said "holy molly, that's a huge investment bringing the bands to the city like this" and his response has been, "yeah, but we have been trying a lot of new things here at the Cornerstone and I think that is what has been appealing."
The concerts will be in the evenings of June 26 and 27 and tickets will be $20 at the gate.
The Cornerstone isn't the only business taking this year's Sidewalk Days to a new level. The Moose Jaw Downtown Business Improvement District is also adding a few new activities to the event.
Dale Harvey, one of this year's organizers, said one of the newest activities slated for the Saturday of the event is a car show running down Main Street.
"The show is going to contain classic and restored vehicles so that's a little bit different."
He said there will also be dog agility exercises and the club members will be talking to the public about the importance of being a responsible pet owner and the importance of cleanup, especially at events like Sidewalk Days.
"This year it (BID) is looking for buskers and street performers. We are trying to find people to sing, play guitar, do some a cappella stuff or whatever. Other than that, I think the biggest entertainment in town is going to be taking place at the Cornerstone in the beer garden."
He said there has definitely been a growing interest in Sidewalk Days this year and he encourages any businesses wanting to take part to get involved.
"After all this isn't just about the downtown core. It is about businesses in general."
