Special concert planned to assist CF

In honour of their friend Craig Lapensee, who lost his life to cystic fibrosis (CF) this past year, Dylan Nash and a couple of his friends are hosting a benefit concert in Wakamow Valley later this month.
Nash said Summerfest 2009, to be held Aug. 28, at 2 p.m., is the first festival of its kind to hit the Friendly City.
Besides musicians, a press release said organizers were looking for anyone who paints, sculpts or makes visual art.
"I have been putting on shows for a while now and I don't think Moose Jaw has ever had a festival quite like this, especially one that has been organized by a group of youth," said Nash.
"We also thought this would be a great way to remember (our friend) and raise some money for (CF)."
The entire festival is a non-profit event with all of the proceeds going to CF, said Nash.
A news release stated the festival will feature an all-local bill with artists and musicians from Moose Jaw and area.
Some of the bands slated to perform include Andy Shauf, Brian Sauce and Drive She Said.
Summerfest organizers had a good problem when it went searching for talent for the show.
"We have had such a great response. We actually have too many bands at this time."
He said seeing how much people want to do their part and donate their time has really made the effort put forth in the beginning that much more worthwhile.
Nash said on the visual arts side of things, there is still room for those who are interested.
He said about six artists will have their work on display.
"We are happy with what we've got so far, but there is room for more and we are happy to take on more artists."
He said the festival is about raising money and awareness for the cause and bringing people together, so the more the merrier.
Nash told the Times-Herald he hopes the festival goes well and is successful.
There is no real cash goal, Nash just hope the event can raise as much as possible.
