Gift Giving

In my experience, there are two types of gift givers, the practical gift giver and the surprise gift giver. The practical gift giver always ensures to ask what you want or need for Christmas and is willing to spend any amount on what was specifically ask for, or even goes as far as taking you shopping to get exactly what we want, but will not spend money needlessly on items that they are guessing you may like or don’t really need. It became a tradition as a teen and early adult to spend an entire day in early December downtown Moose Jaw clothes shopping for myself with my mom. After many hours in our local stores such as Clothes Encounters we would head home with an entirely new wardrobe for me.  She would then wrap all the clothes that were purchased and put them under the tree and make me wait for Christmas morning to open them up....act surprised and finally get to wear my new clothes. I wasn’t surprised, but I sure was happy as I got exactly what I wanted.

The other type are the super secret gift givers that never ask what you want, because that would take the surprise out of it, and always get items that you would never purchase yourself.  This creates a Christmas morning full of wonder and amazement for the unique and never thought of items. Sometimes it leaves you thinking, did I really need this? But the wonderful part is you sure are surprised and it is fabulous to receive something that you wouldn’t necessarily purchase yourself, making it the perfect gift.

Hostess gifts can be the simplest gifts to buy, yet the most appreciated gift of all, as it is unexpected. It is a fantastic way to say thank you to the host for cleaning and decorating their house like mad, for slaving over the stove all day and for having to clean up the mess the next morning. A great hostess gift can be inexpensive, useful or funny. One of our top selling items this year is the Vin-O-ice stainless steel rod, which keeps wine perfectly chilled while the gravity lid creates a perfect pour and aerates simultaneously, making this the perfect hostess gift.  Other great hostess gifts include taking a beautiful glass serving dish, pate knife or cheese knife along with your specialty cheese, homemade dip or bottle of Oliv oil to leave with the hostess after the party.

Even the smallest gifts of appreciation seem extra special when they come beautifully gift wrapped. Whether it is in the store’s signature gift bag creating great anticipation for what’s inside or taking the time to hand wrap with beautiful ribbon and bows. Creating a color pallet for your gift wrap that compliments your tree can make your presents under the tree add to your holiday decor. A great way to set off any gift is with a Christmas ornament tied to the top as a gift topper. This adds a personal touch and makes it extra special.

Are you that super secret shopper and are struggling with what to buy that difficult person on your list that has everything? Here are our top three suggestions that they are sure to love and still available at the store.

Lampe Berger- An Air purifying system that improves air quality by removing bacteria that causes odours and leaves a pleasant long lasting fragrance. Our best selling Christmas Gift for five years in a row. It is the perfect gift for that person on your gift that has everything.

However you may shop, it is the feeling of giving a great gift that makes it all worthwhile.  The phrase, “it’s the thought that counts,” truly is the greatest gift of all. The fact that someone took the time to think about what you would like, whether purchased or handcrafted, is a remarkable thing. And even the smallest gifts can be the most appreciated.

From our Family to yours,  Jillian, Karrin and Staff at Jillian’s Design Elements would like to take this opportunity to wish you a safe and happy holiday season and a healthy and prosperous new year. Thank you Moose Jaw for your support and patronage throughout the year.
