During Monday’s council meeting, the majority of council approved a parks and recreation department recommendation allowing Pattison MGM Architectural Services LTD (and their engineering sub-consultants), to complete the design development and construction documents for the Utility Service Centre.

This decision means the company will not have to compete with other companies in a tendering process.

Jody Hauta, parks and recreation director, told council the city hired Pattison MGM to submit an assessment report on the utility service facility.

the company found many building issues.

For example, there is a lack of meeting room spaces for conducting and discussing day-to-day work assignments and outdated change rooms that don’t accommodate both male and female workers adequately.

The company proposed several improvement possibilities, such as demolishing interior of the administrative area, change room and locker portions of the facility and building an addition to supply more office areas, as well as reconfiguring space to allow for bigger washroom and change room facilities.

Administration recommended Pattison MGM continue with the project, as it already conducted the initial assessment and hiring that company would be more cost effective.
