“It kind of gives you a feeling they know you’re still out there.”

That’s how XL Beef employee Warren Byrne said he felt after another local union came out to the site of the ongoing picket next to the XL plant on Wednesday, offering a cash donation of $500 and four boxes filled with food.

“We just wanted you to know, as a union we’re behind you and we realize you’re in a tough spot being locked out,” International Association of Machinists and Aerospace (IAMAW) Local 32 president Travis Laslo told picketing XL employees.

“We’re all in it for the same reasons.”

According to Laslo, the IAMAW Bombardier workers out at 15 Wing decided to start collecting food and money for their United Foods and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1400 counterparts about three weeks ago.

“It’s tough to be basically unemployed at the best of times,” Laslo said, adding showing solidarity with fellow unionized workers fits IAMAW’s motto to protect jobs and provide community service.

The Union really needs to make a trip down to the US border to see how many thousand head are being trucked to the States for slaughter. These could be creating Canadian jobs!
