Farming for Profit conference set for end of June in Moose Jaw

The 16th annual Farming for Profit conference takes place in Moose Jaw on June 28 and 29.

Guest speakers will be Owen McAuley, the vice-chairman of the Manitoba Farm Mediation Board, Tom Jensen of the International Plant Nutrition Institute, Dan Hawkins of Farmlink Marketing Solutions, Laura Anderson from the Canadian Grain Commission, Kevin Wipf of University of Alberta, and Parr Rosson from the Texas A&M.

The meeting will be focusing on the issues that affect agriculture in Saskatchewan.

The topics will include:

- Beef and pork at the crossroads

- The future in biofuels

- Transportation bottlenecks

- Canadian and U.S. farm programs: Who is a winner?

- Soaring production costs and falling commodity prices

- High commodity prices and food costs

- Satellite imagery for crop identification

- Pricing options for grains and oilseeds

- Risk management strategies: The right time to both sell and buy

- Carbon sinks and farm profitability: New evidence

- Price bubbles: Bust or Explode?

"We will be focusing more on energy and food versus fuel," said Parr Rosson.

Said Dan Hawkins: "I will be speaking about the farming for profit and improving the grain marketing."
