Although there were six fewer local building permits issued in the month of April 2009 - 39 - compared to the same 30-day period in 2008, the value of this year's projects was about $1.9 million more than last year, with a value of about $6.8 million.
The largest category to see new construction this April was residential dwellings, with 17 building permits issued at a total value of approximately $4.8 million.
There were permits issued to erect five dwellings with attached garages on Wood Lily Drive alone.
The most valuable building permit issued for April was to the Ministry of Government Services, which is contracting Cardinal Construction to upgrade ventilation at Siast Palliser Campus. The project is valued at almost $1.1 million.
Another permit was issued to Triple 4 Advertising, so that company could hire Paice Construction to conduct $540,000 in improvements to a 445 13th Ave. N.E. office building.
There were also 10 new accessory building permits issued at a total value of $151,000 in April, as well as 10 residential alteration, repair and addition permits issued at a total value of $286,680.
For the first four months of 2009, there were 20 fewer building permits issued locally than during the same time period in 2008. However, this year's 69 projects were worth about $16.6 million, which is approximately $1.7 million more than those permit values issued by the end of April last year.
