Community fundraising for the multiplex project should begin soon.
Bill Deyo, Multiplex Builders Inc. fundraising co-chairman, told the Times-Herald the community portion of the fundraising campaign will begin in the autumn, although there is no exact launch date.
He said the community portion of the fundraising campaign is still in the planning stages, as raising $10 million is not something that can happen "overnight."
However, Deyo added fundraisers have successfully collected a large portion of the money required for the multiplex project through corporate and business donations and pledges.

Maybe they have made a good choice in waiting until October...after all, by the time they knock on all the doors..everyone will need at least one box of chocolate almonds....Christmas is around the corner.
I know my family and all the needy groups I usually support during the festive season will understand that there will be nothing for them...I am going to help support the Duo-Plex fundraising,
I am doubling my pledge...I'll buy two boxes of chocolate almonds!

LOL, , these people are starting to get a little wiser; ie no commitment to a definite date this time! What happened to the past 3-4 commitments to start fundraising?
Fund raising 10 mil in this community is a pipe dream and they know it. So leave it for the next council to explain why the taxpayers will be stuck having to cover the shortfall.

    Bruce,

Interesting comments you have brought forth. You have intrigued me to pose some questions:

    - How are we going to prosper: Per provincial capita we are one of the leaders as a city in losing jobs?

    - Our young people leave our community to go find work and build their futures elsewhere....how are we keeping our young people here? I am always amazed how many students leave Moose Jaw, attend University and come back to MJ only to find they are driving to Regina for work, or moving elsewhere.....where are the jobs?

    - Why are we are spending 60 million on a hockey facility that is not nearly as great as it could be? Why would we not build the best possible building for the money and make it something that people talk about and outside Moose Jaw users want to use it and be part of it? We could have had something truly amazing and ground breaking for our community, however; once again, we build something half fast, cut corners, and are content with settling for mediocrity.

    - We have had a city council that was full of backroom deals, lies, manipulations and narrow minded focus and goals...now we have no one that wants to run, a community that won't vote in a young city council, our seniors are influenced by scare tactics and lets not forget we are a city with no community plan, direction or ideas to make this city prosper.

Again, I ask, where is the potential when our neighbours to the east are building at a record rate, bringing forth jobs, retaining their youth. Travel north to Saskatoon and see a community that has growth potential and a city council with a clear plan and focus to continue their prosperity. Yorktown, Swift Current and even Prince Albert (even after losing their mill) are all showing signs of growth and prosperity...where are we headed? I am all for progress, however, we are light years behind and because of that we are missing out on the ability to prosper because of our past

    Surprisingly Unexpected I guess!

Steven, you must be one of the big pledgers, all talk no money!! Just like Jameson, where is his million? As a taxpayer I have now pledged enough in higher taxes. I hope one of those fools calls me, I might pledge a million or 2. No Cash, just like the rest of these clowns and their pledges.

Call it pledges, funny money or whatever you like. At least the Builders are providing us with updates on cash and pledges collected. Let's imagine how people would be reacting if they didn't bother to give us any updates at all. We would forever hear about their secrecy and the fact that no money has been raised and how they're going to skip town and the tax payers will be out millions. Put whatever spin you like on the situation, but I guarantee all of that cash comes in. Perhaps even more than required. You'll see.

Is there really nothing else to complain about? Does it matter if its all been collected or which account its in? There's no immediate deadline. Let them do their work and save your comments for whem they come up with over $11 million.

Ya know what? How many times are we going to hear from these fictional characters? I've heard fewer failed promises from a candidate for the federal election! First we hear they have all this money in the bank. Then, they have to wait for the referendum to fundraise. Then, they have to wait till summer (2008!!!). Then, no one's around, so have to wait a while. Then in Feb they magically have $8M fundraised, only a half mill is actually deposited into a bank account. Now six months later, they are still pushing things off later and later. You want to blame someone for delays, blame these losers!

As for 'does it matter if it's been collected'...umm...how do you pay bills with a PLEDGE?? Seriously!

I'll believe it when the money's in the bank, and the bills are paid in CASH. Until then, this is all funny money. Anyone can pledge money, and say they've 'raised' a whack of cash. Not until it's actually a cheque, or cash, is it real money that you can USE.

    What?
    - September 18th, 2009 at 16:30:26

They said they had like 8 mil committed, and they only needed like a mil and whatever they used to cover they're own expenses.

I hope that Raising 10 million overnight line was the writer of this article and not from the mouth of the organizer because that is BS.

Where's the money? There is just over 1 million that has been turned over to the city so my question to you is the remaining 9 million in pledges? And Shelley Jones during her presentation to council stated that it would be no problem collecing the amount needed and then nada.
