Moose Jaw -
Despite all the doom and gloom in today's economic world, Saskatchewan residents - and some from ouside our provincial borders - dug deeply again this weekend and came up with $3.8 million for Kinsmen Telemiracle 33.
Imagine 33 years of raising more than $1 for every man, woman and child in this province.
Who would have thought, 33 years ago, that the telethon would still be going strong in 2009 and raising more than $3 for every man, woman and child in this province? Such generosity is noted across this nation.
The only thing better than the generosity of the people here is the fact that all this money is used to help people right here in Saskatchewan. Where would these people be without help from the Kinsmen to buy wheelchairs, purchase specialized equipment for people who need a little help to enjoy what the rest of us take for granted, offer financial help for families who have to spend time away from home to be with a loved one receiving specialized medical treatment, and the list goes on.
The success of Telemiracle is a true Saskatchewan story. It reflects the generous spirit we so often see from people of this province. Wherever there's a cause, there's a solution here thanks to the kindness of many strangers.
Saskatchewan is now considered the land of opportunity in Canada, but for those who have lived here through the rough times, we know Saskatchewan people rely more on each other than on an often fickle economy.
The good times have been with us for the past 33 years and longer.
