REGINA - About 15 retirees who are part of public sector pensions plans in Saskatchewan are having their benefits suspended because a provincial agency can't locate them.
For the last six months, the Public Employees Benefits Agency has been trying to verify the existence of pensioners in several public sector pension plans to make sure it's making appropriate payments.
It hasn't been able to locate 15 retirees in seven different pension plans, including a plan for members of the legislative assembly, the province's liquor board and a municipal employees pension plan.
Brian Smith, the assistant deputy minister of the agency, says they don't have current addresses for some pensioners and have run out of options in trying to reach them.
He says they want to make sure they're paying the correct pensions to the right people.
Smith says if a pensioner has passed away and the agency hasn't been notified, the process of collecting overpayments can be tough on that person's family.
