REGINA - The Saskatchewan government has introduced a new minimum age of employment.
The province says 14- and 15-year-olds will be allowed to hold jobs, but only if their parents consent and the hours of work add up to less than 16 in a school week.
The teens won't be able to work past 10 p.m. on a school night and must also complete an online safety course.
Prior to the announced change, only hotels, restaurants, educational institutions, hospitals and nursing homes had a minimum age of employment.
Labour Minister Rob Norris says the regulations will help with the ongoing labour shortage, particularly in the service industry.
The new rules take effect next month.
