Terrible roads

Mother Nature did her best to keep the drunks off the streets New Year's Eve, but even she couldn't stop the stupidity.
Police were swamped with calls from people who had more than they could take from drunks, delinquents and other derelicts.
For those who stayed sober but had to drive, Moose Jaw was a nightmare Wednesday evening. With no signs anywhere of snow plows or sander trucks, drivers were left to their own skills to even find parking along Main Street. Going out for a meal was a challenge for many drivers.
While police did not report a rash of accidents, the atrocious condition of the streets was neither necessary nor appreciated.

One would think that with the increase in housing prices would come the increase in property tax revenue. Hmmmm!
And with all this hoopla about a multiplex to be located downtown, one might think the city would be concerned with the road conditions there.
A reasonable assumption would be that the city would start paying more attention to the safety of the citizens and send a plow and sander out. Perhaps even consider the use of salt on some of those steeper roads. (Contrary to popular belief, salt will work against snow and ice when used promptly and in conjunction with plowing)
It sounds reasonable to me, but then again, I'm not the one spending the money, just paying the taxes.

Perhaps keeping their heads in the sand or the snow, as the case may be, will make this whole thing just disappear.

Horrible writing again by the Times Herald staff.

I quote: While police did not report a rash of accidents, the atrocious condition of the streets was neither necessary nor appreciated.

This statement suggests that someone out there called on Mother Nature to blast us on New Year's Eve. Ludicrous!

Anybody listening? No, didnt think so.

To conduct commerce in a city, people have to be able to move about the city. Moose Jaws lack of an effective snow removal plan is another blemish on our city that rests squarely on the mayor's and counsellors desks.
