Moose Jaw - As the snow keeps falling, Moose Javians are having trouble keeping their vehicles in tip-top shape.
The recent downfalls of snow have led to significantly more vehicle accidents, according to Courtney Soderlund, manager of the SGI claims department in Moose Jaw.
"With continuing snow, the roads have gotten much icier. Generally it takes a while for people to adjust to the changed conditions."
Soderlund estimated that drivers aren't fully prepared to handle icy roads until they've driven on them for about two weeks.
While the accidents that are happening do not tend to be extremely serious - most are "fender-benders" according to Soderlund - they all still have to be claimed and appraised.
"We're definitely busier than usual this year.
"(Because of the increased number of accidents) we're four days behind in processing claims and 1 1/2 weeks behind for appraisals, which are usually done in a few days."
In an attempt to cope with the higher volume, workers are putting in 12 hour days in the appraisal shops.
Soderlund also mentioned that the problems are not confined to Moose Jaw; cities and towns across the province are facing similar situations.
To cut down on accidents, Soderlund reminded drivers to "slow down, use more caution and always make sure your windows are clean."
