On Tuesday, the province gave the green light for $17 million in highways and infrastructure funding.
The money is part of the provincial $500-million economic "booster shot" stimulus plan, fast-tracking projects scheduled for next year.
Funds will be spent on six projects involving highways and urban centres. but Moose Jaw was not listed among the recipients.
A total of $10 million is going to Regina for the development of a global transportation hub.
Swift Current is getting $6 million for interchange improvements at Highway No. 3 and Trans-Canada Highway. Lloydminster is getting $750,000 for the Urban Highway Connector Program. Weyburn is receiving $450,000 for Highway 39 service road improvements.
Melfort is getting $300,000 for Highway No. 6 improvements and Humboldt is getting $150,000 for Highway No. 20 intersection improvements.
"The money is being advanced out of the next fiscal year for this year for projects that are ready to go," said Doug Wakabayashi of the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure.
The majority of the projects involve places where provincial highways converge with urban municipalities. The goal of each project is to improve safety, reduce congestion and support the growth of cities.
Each urban centre is ranked and a formula is used to divide the money between the city and the province. Each city also funds a portion of the projects costs, according to Wakabayashi.
The province has a five-year plan regarding infrastructure funding. The cities present a wish list of projects and they are prioritized in order of importance.
Moose Jaw already has a highways project underway. Work began in 2007 to modify the Ninth Avenue Northwest service road and ramps to the Trans-Canada Highway. A number of incidents, including two fatal crashes, pushed the project up the list.
