On Friday morning the Saskatchewan Highways and Infrastructure Minister Wayne Elhard announced there would be seven Saskatchewan community airports receiving grants for airport improvements.
The grants, totalling $500,000, are going to be distributed to Estevan, Kamsack, Kindersley, Maple Creek, Swift Current, Yorkton and Moose Jaw.
Due to a combination of the Moose Jaw Airports need for improvements and its high traffic flow, Assistant Deputy Minister for policy and programs, George Stamatinos said Moose Jaw "kind of floated to the top of the pile," in respect to all those who applied for the grants.
Moose Jaw received $168,000 of the $500,000 given out.
Through the Community Airport Program the ministry is providing funding to ensure eligible community airports have the means to improve and maintain its infrastructure.
Stamatinos said this includes runways, taxiways, tarmac, and more.
