During the May 11 city council executive committee meeting, committee members heard possible future options for one of Moose Jaw's smaller and oldest bridges.
The Coteau Street East bridge is a 101-year-old six-metre wide structure crossing a railway on the southeast side of Moose Jaw. The bridge is wide enough for two sidewalks and one driving lane.
The bridge is one of two access routes to the International Bible College and, in 2008, the city engineering department contracted Stantec Consulting to assess the condition of the bridge and come up with recommendations for the bridge's future.
According to City Engineer Ryan Johnson, of all the possible options for the bridge, there are three administration considers the most cost effective.
The first option is to close the bridge to vehicles in two years, leaving it available to pedestrian use for another 38 years, before demolition. This option would cost a total of $475,000, mostly for demolition purposes.
