REGINA - The union representing 12,600 Saskatchewan health workers says it's members have approved a strike mandate, but that doesn't mean they will hit the picket lines yet.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees says the workers voted 88 per cent in favour of taking job action.
The move comes as the union continues contract talks with the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations.
Gordon Campbell, president of CUPE's Health Care Council, says he hopes to see progress at the bargaining table this week.
Campbell says the union wants the association to drop what he calls "demands for major concessions" and to put a monetary offer on the table.
The health workers, including lab technicians, licensed practical nurses and other support staff, have been without an agreement for 15 months.
