A tanker truck carrying 57,000 litres of gasoline flipped on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Thatcher Drive exit in Moose Jaw this morning.
Moose Jaw's deputy fire chief Randy Crashley said the cause of the rollover is unknown at the moment. The tanker is currently in the westbound ditch of the highway leaking gasoline from a puncture in rear trailer and from the loading port in the front trailer.
The highway has been blocked off on both sides from the Thatcher Drive exit to Highland Road. People are being encouraged to avoid this section of the highway and go into Moose Jaw through the Manitoba Expressway on the east side and other exits including Main Street North, on the west side.
He expects the section to be closed most of the afternoon.
The truck was travelling to Calgary from Moose Jaw.
Crashley said the driver was taken to Moose Jaw Union Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Clean up crews are coming from Regina and Calgary to deal with the situation.
