Industry trends are fuelling the popularity of SIAST's apprenticeship programs.
"What it's a sign of is that industry has hired more apprentices because of the boom in construction and, to a lesser extent, manufacturing," said David Walls, senior vice-president of academics for SIAST.
SIAST houses its apprenticeship programs for carpenters, electricians and welders at its Palliser Campus in Moose Jaw. Walls said those programs are full for the sessions beginning in September. The certificate programs in those same trades are also full.
"Another area we're seeing some increases in is the health sciences - in nursing and medical diagnostic imaging," said Walls. Those programs are housed in Regina and Saskatoon.
There are programs starting the week of Sept. 2 that still have vacancies including electrical and electronic engineering technologies, computer aided design and drafting technologies, professional cooking, auto service technicians, business information systems and the business certificate program. Registrations for those programs will be accepted until Sept. 2.
