August was a very prosperous month for retail sales in Saskatchewan, according to a recent Statistics Canada trade report.
For August, the province's retail sales totalled $1.27 billion. This was an 8.4 per increase over August 2007. This year's was the highest ranking August in Saskatchewan history.
It was also the highest percentage increase in Canada. The nation overall only experienced a 1.7 per cent sales increase.
"August was an exceptional month for retail sales," said Saskatchewan Enterprise and Innovation Minister Lyle Stewart, adding consumer optimism is an important measure of an economy.
