The Five Hill Health region released its unaudited financial statement for the year ending March 31, 2008.
"The good news is we're in surplus, " explained Five Hills CEO Dan Florizone .
The surplus, roughly $1.75 million, will be transferred into the region's capital projects budget.
Florizone said that while a surplus in excess of $1 million represents a significant amount of resources, it's a small margin of the health region's overall budget, coming in at approximately $110 million.
"It's around one per cent of the total budget," Florizone said.
He likened it to a household with a $50,000 income having a one per cent, or $500 annual surplus, to address all of its household maintenance costs.
"While it's a very narrow surplus in the grand scheme of things," Florizone said, "it's still on the positive side, so we are operating within our means and that's good."
