Yuck. Shame on whoever is doing it.
These are the thoughts that come to mind when reading about the Spring Creek cleanup conducted by SIAST environmental technician and water resource students last Friday.
In a story in Saturday's Times-Herald, the first sentence described what the students were finding.
Patio sets, old propane tanks, couches and toys were just a few of the items that the creek yielded between Fourth Avenue Northwest and Seventh Avenue Northwest.
Huh? Patio sets? Old propane tanks?
What would ever possess someone to take a patio set and dump it in the creek?
It's sad to think someone would take this avenue rather than donating it to charity, trying to sell it for a few bucks or even taking it to the dump.
It's actions such as this that make one sad for humanity. Some people don't deserve the good earth they live on.
Although it's possible such a measure is already in place, the institution of a massive fine, clearly posted on signs around the creek, may be a deterrent for some creek dumpers. Maybe some alternatives to dumping in the creek could also be clearly listed on the sign.
Money just may talk to a potential creek dumper.
If dumping a foreign object in a waterway makes sense to someone, maybe the threat of being caught and paying a fine might as well.
What's up with polluters?
