CORAL HARBOUR, Nunavut - A teen who was trapped on an ice floe after he got separated from a friend while snowmobiling in Nunavut has been rescued.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre at CFB Trenton in Ontario says two search-and-rescue technicians parachuted onto the ice after the youth was spotted from the air. The rescue centre says the 17-year-old is being checked over to make sure he is all right.

A rescue boat from the community of Coral Harbour is threading its way through open water to get to the scene.

The teen had to spend a night on the ice after he got separated Sunday from his friend, who managed to walk back to the mainland.

Coral Harbour is a hamlet of about 800 on the southern coast of Southampton Island at the mouth of Hudson Bay.
