HALIFAX, N.S. - Nova Scotia Premier Darrell Dexter says he regrets being included in an auditor general's report that found excessive spending by members of the provincial legislature.
Dexter used public money to buy a $2,150 digital camera, among other items, according to a report released last week by auditor general Jacques Lapointe.
Dexter says he will recommend abandoning the legislature's internal economy board in favour of a more modern management commission in a bid to strengthen spending controls.
His office has said he will repay the public purse for the items he purchase.
Lapointe's report concluded members from all three political parties had spent public money excessively or inappropriately.
Jacques Lapointe said the money went to items including custom-made furniture, cameras and an espresso maker.
Some politicians have apologized and repaid the funds, while others have sought advice from the auditor general and the Speaker's Office on what to do.
