Moose Jaw is one step closer to putting the proverbial hot irons to the proverbial hide on its branding initiative.
During the Sept. 22 council meeting, economic development commission chairwoman Coun. Dawn Luhning said the branding Moose Jaw initiative, started earlier this year by various local stakeholders, is moving forward.
"We expect work with the branding initiative probably to start within the next 30 to 40 days."
Recently, a subcommittee interviewed four applicants seeking a contract to help orchestrate the branding project, which requires insights from various stakeholders and community members to answer the question, "What is Moose Jaw?"
The commission received eight proposals from companies. Those interviewed include Noblet Design Group/North Star, the Phoenix Group, Brown Communications and Chemistry.
Luhning said it would probably take a couple of weeks before the commission awards the contract, with actual work beginning in November.
She added the group will be seeking public input.
Luhning hopes the commission completes the initial stage of the branding by mid-spring, with a community logo and campaign strategy set in place.
Earlier this year during an information meeting on branding, Harvey Linnen, HJ Linnen & Associates president and communications consultant, said a brand is like an organization's reputation, but with a positive focus.
He said people must actively encourage a brand, which is far more than just a slogan.
