On Monday, 12-year-old Grace McCullough's rendition of Rihanna's "Umbrella" song will air on TV's Karaoke Star Jr.
"I'm kind of nervous," the Grade 7 St. Michael School student told the Times-Herald on Friday. "I don't know what I'm going to sound like exactly."
Earlier this winter, McCullough tried out for the Karaoke Star Jr. competition in Saskatoon and passed to the semi-finals.
On May 18, the top 10 from across Canada who pass the semi-finals will win trips to Calgary for the final performances.
McCullough said Saskatchewan's semi-final winner will be declared through online and text voting all next week (the week after Saskatchewan contestants recent performances will air on TV).
She urges all Moose Javians to watch her performance on Monday and then vote for her.
Karaoke Star Jr. airs on YTV and CMT.
The local contestant started singing at age four. Although she took some singing lessons previously, McCullough said, "I decided lessons just aren't for me."
Her professional vocalist experience includes singing the national anthem during Pembroke Lumberjacks games.
Although her brother is a little more excited with hockey than with his sister's televised music performance, McCullough said everyone in her family is very proud of her accomplishment and supportive of her talent.
"My mom and dad are like really happy for me."
She added her favourite styles of music to perform are rhythm and blues, hip-hop and electrical, which she describes as a relatively challenging genre for a singer.
"It's kind of like you really fiddle around with your voice and make it funny."
