The Moose Jaw Warriors have traded 19-year-old left winger Giffen Nyren and a fifth round pick in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft to the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for a fourth and fifth round pick in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft.
Nyren played both defence and left wing in his two seasons with the Warriors. The native of Calgary played 130 games for the Warriors over two seasons scoring nine goals and 28 assists.
"It was a situation where at 19 year of age Giffen was slotted to play in our top nine as a forward," said Warriors general manager Chad Lang in a statement. "However, through camp he expressed an interest of no longer playing forward and wanted to play defense. Due to the depth on our back end and how our young guys competed in camp, we did not feel we could accommodate Giffen's needs and wants.
"We felt it was better to give him an opportunity and a fresh start with a new club. We would like to thank him for his commitment the past two years and wish him all the best in Kamloops."
