Moose Jaw has ties to Canada’s latest bronze medal.
Richard Weinberger, who was born in Moose Jaw in 1990, has won bronze in the men's open-water marathon at the London Games.
Weinberger told a Vancouver Province sports reporter that he was born in Moose Jaw but learned to swim in a pool in a family compound in Saudi Arabia when his family was living there — his father was a commercial pilot at the time.
He now lives in British Columbia.
Weinberger completed his Olympic swim in 1:50:00.3, just seconds behind Oussama Mellouli of Tunasia who took gold in 1:49:55.1. Thomas Lurz of Germany was second in 1:49:58.5.
