The regular meeting of Early Bird Lions Club was held Oct. 26 at Timothy Eaton Gardens with president Randy Zaiser presiding.

Richard Towriss and Gerry Alexander will be co-chairmen for sales of CNIB car raffle tickets.

Wayne McGregor reported there are still some CNIB cash calendars to be delivered.

Members were reminded that tickets for the Remembrance Day concert being held Sunday at the Alliance Church are available at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre at $15 each.

The district governor’s visit will be Dec. 12 at Timothy Eaton Gardens. The Moose Jaw Lions Club and Lioness Club are invited to attend.

Grace and Elvin Sorensen and Wayne McGregor reported on the recent conference in Regina. With the new districts taking place, there will be many items to be resolved and bylaws to be determined. The two current districts will combine to form one district to be known as 5SKS, effective July 1, 2010. The first fall conference as a new district will be held at Cypress Hills in November 2010 and Moose Jaw will be the host in 2011.

Gord Jago will explore the possibility of obtaining a matching grant from LCIF for Habitat for Humanity.

Zaiser accepted an invitation to represent the Early Bird Club at the White Cane Club supper held Tuesday.

At the conference in Regina, Wayne McGregor received a certificate of appreciation from the international president for his work on behalf of the Lions Quest program. This is a Lions-sponsored program to help children resist peer pressure to do drugs. The program has been in use in schools for many years and has had a lot of positive feedback.

Grace Sorensen reported that 156 pairs of used eyeglasses have been collected since April. There are collection boxes in public places throughout the city. Anyone who has eye wear no longer being used is encouraged to donate them. Used sunglasses are also needed.
