The Moose Jaw Lions Club held its general meeting Nov. 4 at the Moose Jaw Legion.
Correspondence was received from the Lions Clubs International Foundation explaining the various guide dog programs (hearing, sight, special needs/seizure and autism) along with matching donations from an anonymous donor. The club received plaques and emblems from LCIF in response to the support provided during 2008-2009. Information was also received from the Literacy Network of Moose Jaw and the Canadian Council for the Blind.
Bud Chase reported that 11 bowlers attended blind bowling on Monday and thanked members Ron Metcalfe, Melissa Lawrence, Jeff Ofstie and Helen Fox for their assistance.
President Rob Kosolofski reported that bingo revenues are down throughout the province, but Moose Jaw is doing better than most. Helen Fox was thanked for her continuing support of bingo and noted its significance as the Moose Jaw Lions Club’s major fundraiser.
Syd Glassford reported he has 800- 900 pairs of used eyeglasses and Lion James Murdock volunteered to transport them to Regina. Glassford also has the CNIB calendars which are being sold for $30 each.
SIAST is working on plans for a larger gazebo at Lions Park in Wakamow Valley. Al Fox indicated that no further information is available at this time but that he would update the club as soon as he hears more.
James Murdock reported the annual White Cane supper will be held Dec. 13 at 5:30 pm at the Timothy Eaton Centre. Volunteers are needed to transport White Cane members to the dinner and members are encouraged to bring their spouses or partners.
Murdock also reported the Grey Cup pool tickets are selling well and that the Lions Club has ticket sale dates at the Co-op today and Saturday. Volunteers are still needed.
The club considered the Multiplex seat sale. A motion to refer this item to the directors' meeting was carried.
A Christmas dinner will be held Dec. 9 at the Legion and Helen Fox indicated that roast beef has been ordered. A motion was made and carried that the directors' meeting be held Dec. 2, the dinner meeting be held Dec. 9 (concurrent with the Christmas dinner) and the Dec. 16 dinner meeting be cancelled.
Club members were reminded the next regular meeting will be Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held at the Legion. A zone meeting is scheduled for Nov. 18 in Herbert and the district governor's visit will be held Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. at Timothy Eaton Centre with the Early Bird Lions as hosts.
