The women of Cameroon have written this year’s program for the World Day of Prayer.
The Moose Jaw World Day of Prayer service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Zion United Church and is open to all women and men of all denominations. Local co-ordinator is Beth Ames.
This year’s theme is Let everything that has breath praise God and will be a celebration of Africa in miniature.
The Republic of Cameroon consists of more than 240 languages from its 240 ethnic groups. It is comparable in size to California and is bordered by Nigeria, Lake Chad, the Central African Republic and by Congo Brazzaville, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Throughout the prayer service, participants will learn about the culture and social challenges of the country, including the exploitation of children and the spread of HIV/AIDS.
World Day of Prayer is celebrated in more than 170 countries around the world and 2,000 communities across Canada. The first ecumenical day of prayer was organized in 1920 by women in Canada and the United States. It became the International World Day of Prayer in 1922 and is always celebrated the first Friday of March.
Information about the Moose Jaw service is available from Ames at 693-7980.
