The Big Country Toastmasters meeting March 3 had Lorna Arnold as the chairperson and Toastmaster and Geri Roman as table topics master.
The theme was Fairy Tales and the word of the day was gregarious which means tending to form a group with others of the same kind. Members were encouraged to use their creativity in using the theme and word of the day in their introductions and also while participating in table topics.
Table topics master Geri Roman explained that the purpose of this segment of the meeting was a fun time in which to encourage members to speak in an improptu manner on a variety of questions asked using the evening's theme. Honing improptu speaking skills can assist in job interviews, dealing with a teenaged offspring or in a sales pitch.
Speaker of the evening was Doris Dunphy who gave a slide presentation of her recent trip to Mexico. Included in her presentation was a treat of fruits native to the area which she visited. These are available in our local grocery stores' produce aisles.
Big Country Toastmasters meets Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the SIAST Palliser Campus board room. New members are welcome. Further information is available at 693-8739.
