Jackman, said Thursday’s event was also the first of four Olympic events being held in the coming months to help the city prepare and get enthused for the Jan. 10 relay.
“This really is more or less to make the community aware of what is going on Jan. 10 and the significance of the actual Olympic torch. We should be excited that (the torch) is coming through Moose Jaw. It’s a real privilege.”
Jackman said in the months to follow, it is her committee’s goal to get as many local businesses, organizations and community members involved in the monthly Olympic events.
“We are trying to get local organizations at each of our events to help support them as well.”
She said being a celebration community is an honour the whole city will be able to be proud of and benefit from.
Overall, Jackman said the Olympic barbecue was a success and thought the turnout was OK, considering the weather.
However, she hopes the next event will draw an even bigger crowd.
On Oct. 10, there will be an Olympic day at the Kinsmen Sportsplex where families will have the opportunity to enjoy free swimming, skating and a number of other activities.
